Bible Class Role Descriptions

Teacher(s)

"And he gave some as apostles and some as prophets and some as evangelists and some as Pastors and Teachers, for the equipping of the saints for work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ."
Ephesians 4:11-13

Many scholars consider "Pastor(s) and Teacher(s)" one, making Pastor-teacher(s) or teaching shepherd. This concept of Pastor-teacher is what we are looking for in a teacher or co-teaching team. A person or persons who cares about people and cares about the Word in order to make application into the lives of the flock of which he/they are stewards. This requires the Pastor-teacher to know the class well enough to know how and what to teach from God's Word so that relevant faith issues are addressed and maturity can be achieved.

Class Coordinator

The class coordinator is host, information communicator and flock coordinator. His role is to create a healthy environment enabling the class to grow in numbers and in spiritual maturity. A class coordinator cares for people by communicating warmth, friendliness and approachability. His job is to oversee upfront class responsibilities such as publicly welcoming visitors, coordinating public prayer requests, overseeing class announcements, etc. Monitoring the time so as to allow adequate body life development with appropriate time in the Word is an important function. Spiritual gifts that are uplifting and people centered such as encouragement, hospitality, faith and leadership tend to be the best suited for the task.

Fellowship Coordinator

In order for a class to develop into a flock every class must get outside the four walls of the classroom in an effort to develop relationships through a variety of activities. A fellowship coordinator does not host every outside event but is assigned the responsibility to involve others in the process of planning and implementing flock appropriate activities. A person with the spiritual gifts of hospitality, encouragement, faith and service will function best in the role. Because of the variety of sizes and ages of Adult Education classes, the fellowship coordinator will need to be creative, energetic and positive so that fellowship gatherings or activities are inviting to attend and participate in.

Special Needs Coordinator (Agape)

The Body Life Coordinator is responsible for coordinating appropriate acts of mercy, kindness and encouragement when stressful events happen to class members. Examples would be sending flowers in cases of death or hospitalization. Arranging for food when needed or sending cards of encouragement when the class has prayed about a significant matter is an important function within each class. A person with the spiritual gift(s) of mercy, encouragement or helping would best suit the role.

Outreach Coordinator

The Outreach Coordinator is responsible for designing and coordinating the outreach efforts within the class. This would include identifying and publicly welcoming visitors, sending cards or making follow-up calls to prospective class members. This would also include keeping the class rolls updated so that new class members are included in the body life of a class.

Care Group Coordinator

Ideally each class would have a number of Care Groups originating from its members. New class members would be encouraged to join and feel a part. Coordinating the health and growth of these groups would be a primary function of this role. If new groups need to be started within the class of the Care Group Coordinator would accept the responsibility of recruiting the Care Group leader and new members for the group. The class Care Group Coordinator would act as the link between the Care Group Ministry and the Care Groups with the class.
